30th Anniversary Reunion of FH Unpad Class of 1996 “Back to Campus” Becomes Momentum to Strengthen Alma Mater and Alumni Synergy

Bandung, 21 July 2026 - Faculty of Law, Universitas Padjadjaran (FH Unpad) warmly welcomed the alumni of the Class of 1996 in the 30th Anniversary Reunion themed “Back to Campus” held on Saturday, 18 July 2026. The event, centered in two historical locations for FH Unpad, stands as tangible proof that the relationship between the campus and its alumni has never been severed by time, but continues to grow into a mutually reinforcing collaboration.

For FH Unpad, the active involvement of the Class of 1996 alumni who are spread across various strategic positions — in government institutions, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), as well as national and multinational private corporations — serves as a vital asset in strengthening the faculty's reputation among employer reputation, a key indicator determining FH Unpad's position in higher education rankings both nationally and internationally. The solid career track records of these alumni provide clear evidence of graduate quality while opening broader opportunities for collaboration, including supporting the internationalization direction currently being reinforced by FH Unpad.

This momentum is increasingly relevant given FH Unpad's latest achievement in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, where the Faculty of Law Unpad successfully climbed to the 201–250 range globally in the subject of Law, up from the previous 301–350 range worldwide. Nationally, FH Unpad consistently maintains its position as the 4th best in Indonesia. This achievement highlights that strengthening collaboration with alumni, including through reunion moments like this, contributes significantly to enhancing FH Unpad's reputation and recognition on the global stage.

Dean of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Padjadjaran, R. Achmad Gusman Catur Siswandi, S.H., M.H., Ph.D., was present to deliver welcoming remarks at the reunion. Opening his speech, he reminisced that the very first class he taught was the Class of 1996, in the International Dispute Settlement Law course.

“Today, the ABC trend is common: Alumni Back to Campus or Alumni Bring Collaboration. Universities are required to be more independent and relevant to societal developments, so inevitably we must collaborate, and one of our primary collaborators is our alumni. We are truly grateful for events like this because they bring the spirit of collaboration between the faculty and the alumni. It is the alumni who understand best what the faculty needs,” said the Dean of FH Unpad in his remarks.

He also expressed his appreciation for the contribution of the Class of 1996 together with PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. in providing a dedicated space in the Prof. Dr. H.R.T. Sri Soemantri Building, which is expected to serve as a collaboration hub for the FH Unpad campus in Bandung. “FH Unpad must move quickly, including on the international stage where we are also factored into rankings. Alumni play a crucial role as employers whose assessments form an important point internationally. Hopefully, this kind of collaboration will remain sustainable,” he added.

Through this reunion, FH Unpad reaffirms its commitment to continuously nurture and expand partnerships with all alumni cohorts. The synergy between campus and alumni is believed to remain a crucial foundation in efforts to elevate the reputation and recognition of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Padjadjaran, both domestically and internationally, in line with the ABC collaboration spirit — Alumni Back to Campus, Alumni Bring Collaboration.

The reunion also served as a momentum for alumni to provide concrete contributions to their alma mater through the Bakti Almamater program, supporting the development of the Bagir Manan Constitutional Laboratory, initiated in commemoration of the 100th birth anniversary of Prof. Dr. H.R.T. Sri Soemantri. Chairman of the FH Unpad Class of '96, Wahyudin Sunarya, S.H., LL.M., affectionately known as Kang Way, stated that the reunion was designed not merely as a gathering to relive memories, but as a platform to strengthen camaraderie, build cross-professional collaborations, and optimize alumni synergy and potential for mutual interest.

The theme “Back to Campus” was selected so that all alumni could reminisce about their college days three decades ago, while formulating tangible contributions for their alma mater moving forward. He shared:
“The 30th Reunion of FH Unpad '96 is a forum for camaraderie, collaboration, as well as the optimization of alumni synergy and potential. We hope this momentum further tightens the togetherness among alumni while strengthening our contribution to our beloved campus,” said Kang Way.

Additionally, through the FH Unpad 96 Peduli program, the alumni distributed tokens of affection (kadeudeuh) to the families of departed alumni peers and provided donations to the Rumah IKA FH Unpad to support various social programs conducted by the alumni organization.

The series of events took place at Taman Hukum Unpad Campus, Jalan Dipatiukur No. 35, Bandung, from 06.00 to 14.00 WIB, continuing at 23 Inn, Jalan Imam Bonjol No. 23, Bandung, from 14.00 to 17.00 WIB. A variety of activities highlighted the reunion, including a nostalgic walk, Bandung Tour on Bus (BANDROS), a heritage walk to the Prof. Dr. H.R.T. Sri Soemantri Building, gathering, entertainment, and door prize distribution. Further enriching the reunion event were a broadcast session on Ardan FM and a film discussion of 12 Mile: Guiding the Archipelago — a biopic docudrama chronicling the struggle of Prof. Mochtar Kusumaatmadja. Both discussions highlighted the immense contextuality of diplomatic struggles in establishing the archipelagic state concept recognized worldwide through UNCLOS 1982, expanding Indonesia's territorial sea limit from 3 miles to 12 miles. Among the significant impacts felt by all levels of society is inter-island communication access within the territorial scope of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Many alumni participating in the reunion who now hold careers across various sectors were in attendance, ranging from civil servants in various ministries and agencies, State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), legal practitioners, to national and foreign private companies. Among the alumni present were Arief Kurnia Risdianto, President Director of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk. (PGN), and Eka Fitria, Director of Human Capital & Compliance at PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. The presence of alumni who have established extensive careers reaffirms how the network of FH Unpad graduates is widespread and well-regarded across various industry sectors, government, and legal practices, both nationally and internationally.
