Summer Course 2026

Human Rights and Democracy in the Digital Era
27 July - 10 August 2026
Bandung, Sumedang, and Jakarta, Indonesia

The Faculty of Law, Universitas Padjadjaran invites students from Indonesia and abroad to join the FH Unpad Summer Course 2026: Human Rights and Democracy in the Digital Era.

This programme examines how human rights and democracy are being reshaped by digital platforms, algorithms, artificial intelligence, disinformation, data governance, migration, and global inequality. It also reflects on the continuing relevance of the Bandung Spirit in responding to contemporary challenges faced by younger generations.

The Summer Course combines academic lectures, international co-teaching, cultural field visits, institutional engagement, student colloquium, and a Model Asian-African Conference at the historic Gedung Asia Afrika, Bandung.

Programme Theme

For many young people today, democracy is experienced through constitutions, parliaments, and courts, as well as through digital platforms, algorithms, and online networks.

Digital spaces now shape political participation, civic identity, public debate, social conflict, and access to information. At the same time, digital technologies can deepen disinformation, polarisation, online harassment, surveillance, and public distrust.

This Summer Course invites participants to critically explore these tensions through human rights, constitutionalism, democracy, and Global South perspectives.

Core Courses

  1. Bandung, Decolonisation, and the Future of Human Rights

  2. Democracy on Social Media: Speech, Disinformation, and Democratic Resilience

  3. Equal E-Participation in Decision-Making Processes

  4. Migration, Refugees, Statelessness, and Youth Mobility

  5. Algorithm, Data Protection, AI, and Responsibility of Digital Platforms
